Many downtown businesses offer parking passes for patrons. Why not encourage patronage to their businesses through some form of coupon or reimbursement for those who utilize the public transit?

It would be interesting to montitor the amount of revenue that a restaurant or store increased as a result of a simple program like this.
In Middlesex County, NJ, we have experimented with a pilot program on one of our community transit routes where 10 businesses offered individualized discounts for their shops, restaurants and other businesses. A sheet of coupons which also included an ad for the bus route are distributed by drivers to passengers who ride the service. Usage has been light but businesses have reported customers using the coupons.
Here's a great partnership, Medical Motor Services (Rochester, NY) works in partnership with Wegman's Food Markets to provide shopping trips to seniors. Here's the link:

I agree with the comment about great partnership between Medical Motor Service and Wegman's. If you want some recent information, just go to Medical Motor's site,www. medicalmotors org, and click News/Links to read more about the Wegman's grocery shopping program. Also, the site has information about some of Medical Motor's other outstanding services and programs.
